<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Wedding horror stories. We have all heard them and every bride swears it 'won't happen at MY wedding' ... but it can.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Murphy's Law is real ... Mother Nature is a moody lady ... <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">and God has a sense of humor
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">But, with a little planning you can avoid many 'Disasters'.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"> 1) Children
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Yes, its cute to have little flower girls and ring bearers, but any wedding day is a long one , often starting with pictures hours before ceremony, and kids get cranky. A few steps can help keep down the meltdowns if you really want the little urchins to be part of your big day.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">A) Have them show up later - about an hour before the ceremony, dressed and ready to go.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">B) If that cannot be arranged, assign someone the kids know ( and like) to watch after them. Equip this person with Coloring books and other small toys, or ipads with video games and movies and plenty of snacks and drinks. And a place indoors - away from the hustle and bustle of the wedding prep. Even consider pillows to take a nap.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">2) Pictures
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">It IS the most important day of a couples life, and yes, you want pictures to capture the moments. But, you do not want the whole day be of you standing for pictures ... you do want to have some fun, right?
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Again, planning is the key.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">A) Plan out what you really want with your photographer beforehand . Do you really want a group picture of you and all your cousins? A picture of you both with the entire bridal party and one with just the groom and the entire bridal party AND another with just the bride and the entire bridal party?
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">B) Don't be afraid to let the Photographer handle those extended family members and friend who 'insist' on having them take one with you and them. A Good photographer will let them know they can take one at the reception, AFTER they are through.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">C) Plan out ahead of time what and how many 'staged' pictures you want, you know, the ones where everyone looks surprised, mad, glad, sad, or looking at their phones, or holding each others leg in the air while sticking their tongue out. If you dont want any - tell the photographer so.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">D) Get as many pictures done before the ceremony as possible. And keep track of time for the after ceremony photos. Remember, you have guests waiting !

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">3) We Will Have Perfect Weather
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Planning an outdoor affair? Like I said in the beginning - Mother Nature is a Moody Lady.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">A) Visit the Venue during the hour you plan on having ceremony. The spot maybe nice and shady at 2pm but in the blaring sun at 3pm.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">B) Have a backup plan. If it rains, turns off too hot or cold, etc - a backup location will be needed. And move the location BEFORE you start the ceremony - don't risk having your guests getting soaked .

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">4) Too Much To Do - Too Little Time
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Don't try to 'do it all yourself' Planning a wedding is hard enough, keeping it flowing smoothly is a job and a half.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">A) Depend on the Team - your Bridal Party - especially the Maid/Matron-of-Honor and the Best Man are to do more than 'just show up to party'. They are the make sure you have everything, keep track of the time, and run interference for you with the rest of the guests as you get ready.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">B) Let someone else decorate! You can have say so, even make some of the decor, but have someone else actually do the decorating and set up.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">C) Same goes for the food and the cake.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">D) Hire in a good DJ - someone who can keep things flowing smoothly, hype the crowd up for your big Grand Enterance, makes sure he photographer is ready to capture the romantic first dance, the tearful Father and Bride/ Mother and Groom dances, the fun fight for the bouquet toss. And they will keep the whole evening fun for everyone.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Even the perfectly planned wedding will not go perfectly ... but a little planning does avoid alot of the glitches. Rely on your hired professionals - they are, afterall, the ones that have really 'seen it all' when it comes to wedding day problems and know just how to ensure it is a wonderful day.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">What tips can you add to this??

Weddings should be a reflection of your style - for both you AND your future spouse. Too many brides tend to overlook the groom's style in the excitement of planning the "Perfect Wedding". And then, on the other hand - too many grooms simply sit back and say "Whatever you want" . Planning a wedding should be a joint effort - but just how can you get the groom involved?

There are things you can do to incorporate and meld together different styles.

1. Groom and groomsmen Attire : Ties can be reflective of their passion - School or sports team colors or themed, Camouflage print in any color to still match the Bridesmaids, a small charm added to the boutonniere symbolizing a passion or profession etc., even simply allowing cowboy boots or sneakers for footwear can make a huge difference.

2. Grooms Cake: This should totally reflect the Groom. Get his input! If he is not big on cakes, we have seen a tier of donuts, piles of cookies, pies, even shots of liquor used in lieu of a cake.

3. Pick out your First Dance Song together: Make it a song with true meaning to the both of you. If the groom is one of those 'over the moon' romantic types - let him surprise you with the first dance song - picking out one that he feels conveys his love.

4. Groom and Mother Dance song: No brainer here - he must help pick this one.

5. The Bar: If serving alcohol , delegate the selections served to the groom.

6. The General Music : More and more grooms are taking over the music selecting process. With a professional DJ, the bride can rest assured that the groom will have plenty of guidance and the DJ will also add to the list appropriate number of slow and fast songs to balence it out.

No - generally the groom is not going to really care what color ribbon you use, what the flowers look like etc - but you can get them involved in selecting some things that make the wedding truly special. Afterall - Marriage is the joining of two into one.

Really?

Planning to try to DJ your own wedding via an ipod or internet service like Spotify? One word - DON'T.
No, not just because we are a DJ Service, there are so many reasons why hiring a Professional Wedding DJ is smarter and worth the money.

When you choose to try to DJ your own wedding, there are things you must plan for.
1. You will need a way to plug into speaker system - some venues do provide this, at a fee.
2. You will have to pick out enough music to fill the whole evening - plus arrange it in a reasonable playlist consistent with the flow of the event.
3. You will need someone constantly monitoring the setup - to keep your friends from saying "I hate this song" and hitting skip or adding songs that they want to hear (have seen fights erupt over this)
4. You will need someone do all the announcements - announce you into the room, first dance, etc - which you will also need a microphone for (unless you have a really loud friend).
5. If using a streaming service - you will need a backup plan for if the connection gets dropped or internet goes out.
6. You also must be ready for your friends to bug you throughout the night about what song they want to hear next.

A professional DJ Service takes the hassle out of the music part of your day. With a DJ you will:
1. Have a complete sound system setup
2. Have Dance Floor and/or Up Lighting to enhance the atmosphere
3. You still will be able to compile a list of songs you want, but with a DJ you will not have to find 4 plus hours worth
4. The DJ will handle all announcements - from Grand Entrance to Bouquet Toss and Last Dance.
5. DJs have a vast library of music on their computers - and can do requests from your guests -- and can also screen those requests, so a song that is not appropriate at a wedding does not get played.
6. You are Guaranteed to have the best background music for dinner - and have the switch to Dance music perfectly at the appropriate time.
7. A DJ keeps your guests happy - they read the crowd, and will pick the songs to keep them having a good time.
8. A DJ will also serve as Day Of Event Coordinator - keep you on track of time and make sure all know that you are cutting the cake, Having your First dance etc ..
(if your DJ does not offer that - find one who does)

In short - a Professional DJ is well worth the money - they not only provide the music, but they work tirelessly in keeping your guests happy, the evening flowing, allowing you to relax and enjoy your special day.

Bottom line is - No one ever says they had a blast at a Wedding because the flowers were beautiful, the photographer took many pictures, or even the the food was good .... it is the DJ that makes it fun.
Visit www.2wolves.com - Fort Payne Alabama DJ Service
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00298698803356469018noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5876325097385042473.post-39367972396569983012015-07-19T11:47:00.000-05:002015-07-19T11:56:06.549-05:00Wedding Band or Wedding DJ? Which is a better choice?

As a DJ we often hear from Brides saying "We are trying to decide between having a band at the wedding or a DJ" Outside of the fact both provide music, there is a vast difference in the two.
When planning a wedding you are faced with alot of decisions, and one of the most important ones being entertainment. Bands do offer a cool 'live music' effect, but there are several reasons why a DJ would be a stronger choice.
With the exception of a few strictly "Wedding Bands" - DJs not only bring the music, but so much more to the table.

DJs offer:

Lighting - we offer both dance floor lighting and Up Lighting to set the mood and enhance the setting.

Music - Bands are limited by what they know... and often have their own 'style' of doing each song. A DJ travels with a vast library of music, allowing a more expansive selection across every genre, allowing your guests freedom in requesting songs as well as you having freedom to have - for example - Jazz or classical at Dinner and great dance songs for the reception. Also, the songs are the originals - done by the artist the way you and your guests know them to be.

MC - Many bands (and some DJs) can be weak at MCing a wedding and keeping the evening flowing smoothly. A good wedding DJ offers Full Mcing and "Day Of Coordination" of the evening, from Grand Intro to Final Dance. They will keep up with your timeline and while being flexible, will make sure all the Highlights of your Wedding are covered.

Ceremony Music - If you want your choice of entertainment to cover the ceremony as well, a DJ is the Stronger choice. They again, offer a wider range of songs and a good Wedding DJ is a true asset during the Ceremony. With helping co-ordinating the Bridal Party for the walk down the Aisle, and offering Lapel Microphone for your officiant , we bring more to the table than most.

Cost - Yes, even DJs can be expensive, but unless you are just hiring in one of your local bands, a Professional Wedding Band will tend to be a lot more than a Professional Wedding DJ.

We have a number of packages to fit any budget while not sacrificing quality and allowing you to have true professional entertainment for your big day. Please feel free to visit our section on our packages : http://www.2wolves.com/affordable-dj-packages

Again - this is one of the most important factors of a great wedding - we want you to be confident that you have the one best suited for you. Be to compare what a Band versus a DJ brings to the table and make the best selection for your needs.
Sadly, some don't realize that being a good and gracious guest does require some finesse.

Ceremony
1. Show up on time for the ceremony. Actually plan on arriving a little early. That way if traffic is bad you will still make it in time.
Should something go haywire and you do arrive late - stand or sit in the back - don't disrupt the ceremony by tramping down aisle to sit up front.
2. Stay seated until the entire wedding party departs from the altar.
3. If the couple allows pictures by guests - take them from your seat - do not run around trying to get the best angle - they often have a professional photographer for that.

Pictures
1. When they are having the professional photos done - go enjoy the cocktail hour. Dont be taking photos of them also.
2. Don't ask during this time to have one taken of you and the bride. If the bride wants one she will ask you to be there.
3. Take plenty of pictures at the reception - just be sure not to get in way of the professional the couple hired.
4. Focus more on the candid shots - often the professional photographer will miss them.

Food and Drinks
1. Be sure to indulge without overindulging. Don't pile your plate with all the shrimp - and do not overdo the alcohol.
2. If you enjoyed the meal - be sure to tell the staff. If there is a Bartender - be sure to tip them - especially if it is an open bar.

Dancing
1. DANCE! Someone has to start the dancing, why not you? You will not be alone of the floor long.
2. If allowed, don't be shy about requesting a song. Just remember it is a Wedding - it is a dance - so the song should be appropriate.
3. No - the DJ does not want to play your favorite song off your phone. Dont ask.
4. Unless it is a wedding with Karaoke - NO you can not have the mike to sing this song.
5. NO you may not have the mike to give a toast or speech - not unless the couple says you can.
6. The DJ will work your request into the night - No you may not hear it NOW.
7. If the song you requested is on the "Do Not Play List" do NOT go whining to the bride you want to hear it.
8. It is a dancefloor - not a playground for kids. If you have a bunch of kids running, sliding, lying down on the floor, it makes it impossible for adults to dance. Dont let your kids monopolize the dance area.
9. Just because you requested a song - does not mean it will get played. Hence the term "Request".
10 Have fun and just dance! No one cares if you got 'moves' or not.

When to Leave
1. If you have small children that are getting cranky.
2. Before you have that 'one drink too many'
3. Dont leave right after the Cake, or Bouquet Toss, or "Fake Exit" - there is still more fun to be had.
4. But don't feel like you have to hang around till the end either. And be sure to thank the Couple for the invite.
It sets the mood via beat, melody and lyrics. Choosing the right songs can make or break the whole event. Focusing on Weddings, lets see how the music can enhance the day.

Ceremony - The guests are arriving and the DJ is playing some pre ceremony selections. The setting is a beautiful country barn setting, fields in the background. What style of music would you expect to hear? Many of you probably are thinking Country, which would be the obvious choice. But don't rule out other styles. Instrumentals versions of soft love songs would also fit well, along with classical pieces, especially if you are walking down the aisle to something classical/traditional or a soft Pop song. You want the Pre Ceremony music to complete your setting.

Cocktail/Dinner Music - Like Pre Ceremony music, it is something to be played softly in the background - not to interfere with conversation. Can be a grouping of easy listening songs or something more upbeat. But you want the guests to enjoy their meal and converse - so saving the heavier dance tunes for the dancing hours is recommended.
Cocktail/Dinner hour is the one part of the day your older guests will be there for, so it is also recommended to take them into consideration when selecting the music.

Your "Special" Songs - The First dance, Father and bride dance, Mother and groom dance. All should have special meaning to you. Traditionally the song is something slow and romantic, with lyrics that express the love and emotions the pair dancing have for one another.

Granted, you and your spouse may have a private special meaning of a song, lets say for example - "I Love The Way You Lie" - but your guests may not 'get it'.
Now, say the Groom and Mom can really tear up the dance floor to a Jive or Cha Cha. Should they? Sure! Why not! Same goes for the happy couple. Making it fun can be a reflection of your love.

General Dance Music - When selecting your music for your dancing hours - remember your guests. You want everyone to have fun right? So a wide variety of songs is highly recommended. You know that your Aunt Mary and Uncle Joe love to waltz? Consider adding "Could I Have This Dance?" (Ann Murray) - Mom and Dad love to Two Step? - "Forever and Ever, Amen (Randy Travis) etc. You want to keep the dancing going - so be sure many of the songs are upbeat, fun and sprinkle in some of the wonderful romantic slow songs (like Wonderful Tonight) that even Grandpa will want to dance to. The main thing is to remember - ask yourself - can people dance to it? And don't forget the fun line dances - The Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle, even the YMCA can be fun for all ages.

There are some songs that maybe not so much good 'dance songs' - but more along the lines of 'sing along songs' - Living on a Prayer, Wagon Wheel, Don't Stop Believin, Sweet Home Alabama to name a few - that everyone enjoys singing along to while dancing. Always a fun time.

Two main things to guarantee a wedding to remember - Allow guests to request some songs and choose a Good DJ that will not only help you with your music - but will screen the guests requests for any song that may not 'fit' your reception . You don't want Rap at a country wedding nor do you want songs with F-Bombs around the older guests and or children.

Don't overwork yourself trying to come up with a ton of tunes. A good DJ can take a few selections from you and put together a night filled with great music that truly reflects you and your wedding.

After all ... the music is an very important part - The songs when heard again will bring back memories of your special day for both you and your guests. So choose your DJ wisely.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The Basics would be - Laptops - Speaker System - Controller/ Mixer -Lighting - Microphones - Stands - Cables -and a backup system if needed.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">and:
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">2. Music
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">A vast library of music is needed if you want everyone from your Great Aunt down to your little cousins to have a good time. Most DJs have well over 10,000 songs with them. And no - the music is not "free" - we buy every song. Even at $1.29 a download - it adds up.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Now for the things you may not realize that is in the "package"
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">4. Keeping the guests happy
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">If people don't have a good time at your party, the DJ is the one that often gets blamed. No one ever says - the wedding wasn't fun because the flowers sucked. The DJ needs to have the ability to 'read the crowd' , and know what song is going to get people dancing.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">5. Consulting with the Client:
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">whether it is email, phone, or face to face meeting, the time spent discussing what you want your wedding or party to be like, what music you want, don't want etc.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">6. Preparing
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Hours are spent taking your list of songs and arranging them in a playlist. Then count in searching for and buying that 'special song' we may have already 15 versions of, but not the version you really want. Then judging from your selections, adding in more songs that will fit in and allow for enough music to fill the entire evening. In addition to preparing a separate set for Cocktail or Dinner.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

Not to mention the ones that are requested by people actually trying to hum a few bars of the song.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Granted some DJ services charge an outrageous fee, others charge next to nothing. It is up to you to find out just what you will be getting for your money.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Your choice of DJ is one of your most important things for a successful wedding or party.
At any party, be it a wedding reception, prom, birthday or company event, your main concern is for everyone to have a good time. When it comes to the music, one way is to allow the DJ to take requests.

But, is that always a good idea?

Lets see.....
1. If you allow requests - you will not have to worry about selecting many songs, nor will you have to worry about the DJ playing some obscure dub-step version of something you never heard of.
BUT - your guests just may request a strange song you never heard of.

2. If you allow requests - there is a chance your guests will ask for songs you totally forgot about and love.
BUT - they may ask for songs you totally hate.

3. If you allow requests- you friends may request songs that bring back some great memories
BUT - they may be memories you don't want.

4. If you allow requests - it insures everyone gets a chance to hear their favorite song
BUT - their favorite song maybe too vulgar, a break-up song (Big no-no at weddings), or something no one can dance to.

How can you allow Requests and avoid such issues?

1. Start with a Must Play List - submit a list of at least 10 - 20 songs to your DJ that he/she Must Play.
2. Add in another 10-20 songs that you would like to hear if possible.
3. Go over with your DJ what you envision the event to be like. Fun, with alot of fast songs,..... romantic, with mostly slower songs, .... or a nice balanced mix ( recommended ) Be sure to let your DJ know if you like Country , Pop, Hip Hop, etc
4. Have a Do Not Play List - If you will gag if you hear Bieber's "Baby, Baby" or the "Chicken Dance" ... be sure to add to this list.
5. Ask you DJ how they handle requests. Do they have 'clean' versions of the songs? How do they handle those 'non dance-able' song requests? Request from children? etc
6. Set an age limit - Kids can take over a wedding or family gathering with requests. Setting an age limit can help prevent that - or a limit to number of requests.

One way to keep requests to a minimum is to keep in mind your guests when selecting songs. Include songs you know Grandma will love as well as the younger crowd.
We have a list of tips on How to Select Music here : Tips on Choosing Music for Wedding Reception
Good tips for any event.

A good DJ can help you find the right balance of music you want to hear and requests from your guests. Be sure to discuss requests and how they handle them before hiring.

So you are getting married! Congrats! Now the fun begins on the planning of your special day. No big deal, right? You just pick a date, place, flowers etc and party. Not that easy. Don't get me wrong, have seen beautiful weddings and fabulous receptions put together in a matter of hours (Literally the day of in one case!) - but for MOST weddings, it takes a lot of planning. Lets focus in on the reception. Hopefully these tips will help you cut down on stress.

1. Which is most important to you - the date or the venue? - No guarantee the venue you would like will be available on your date, if you are not planning a year or two in advance. And many venues charge more for the primo days - Saturdays or Holidays. So, the more flexible you are on the day, the better deal and better chance you will be able to book that perfect place.

2. Venue - Indoors vs Outdoor - Outdoor receptions are becoming very popular. Brides either romantically envision a beautiful outdoor party - with perfect sunny weather and beautiful starlit night, or choose to have a backyard affair to help on costs. Which would be great, IF Mother Nature wasn't so fickle.
Indoor receptions you have a controlled climate (so what if its windy/cold/rainy outside?), but prices can vary, and every venue does have its own set of dos and don'ts.
If you DO opt for an outdoor affair, please review our tips on Outdoor Weddings.

3. More on the Venues:
size DOES matter - Meet with the venues and check to see if the place is the right size. Putting 200 people in a room is one thing - putting 200 in a room with cake table, buffet, bar, dance floor, Head table, DJ area etc is another. And along the same line - putting 100 into a large grand ballroom that could hold 300 is just as bad. Too much space and 'mingling' of guests tend to be cut way back, with people staying within their own circle so to speak.

Barn Receptions - Becoming an extremely popular setting are Barns. You can even find many that are set up for weddings. Things to consider with a Barn venue are :
1. Is it enclosed or an open "pole barn"?
2. Does it have heat? AC?
3. What kind of floor? (Some have sawdust or dirt) Sawdust, hay, etc can cause problems with those who have respiratory problems.
4. Electricity - will the venue allow for a band or DJ and special lights?

Now that you have your Date and Venue, lets move on.

4. Book your Caterer and DJ - Do not think you "have plenty of time" for this. Caterers and DJs fill in dates fast, often only booking one event per day.

Caterers: First you must decide - Buffet? Sit down/ Served meal? Appetizers/finger foods only? There is not 'right or wrong' here - the choice is yours. But do think of your guests (and the fact you will be in white) as to what foods you will serve. Also:
1. check with the venue - some do not allow outside caterers in.
2. Ask how they keep the food hot/cold.
3. Do they supply plates, utensils etc
4. Do they serve it or just drop off they food?

Now for the DJ: The DJ can make or break your reception, so choose wisely. Things to look for in a DJ service are:
1. What kind of music do they have? - Most have every genre.
2. Do they supply dance floor lighting? Up lighting? Video Screens? Your name in lights? Bubbles? - Not all have all the 'bells and whistles'. And just how fancy you want your affair is your choice.
3. Do the offers MC services? - Will they make all announcements such as cake cutting, bouquet toss etc?
4. What is their "style" ? What do they wear, how do they make announcements, interact with your guest etc. You will not want one that is in a tux and formal if you are wanting your guests to "let their hair down" nor would you want a ball cap wearing 'Club style' DJ at a wedding reception doing the Yo Yo Yo into the mic with older adults as guests. How much DO they talk on mic during a reception? ( some tend to be too chatty, others not enough)
5. How is the music selected? - Do you have control over what gets played? What doesn't get played?
6. Can they do requests that day?
7. Do they offer day of Coordination? - Will they keep things running smooth for you?

After you get Date - Venue - Caterer - DJ locked in - then you can worry about making it all pretty. The florists can do both your bouquet and centerpieces or a party rental place that specializes in wedding decor can transform any place into something special.

Just remember - not everyone will remember where it was held, how pretty the centerpieces where, or even what the food was like - but they all will remember how much fun they had. So, whether its a fancy affair in a grand Ballroom with filet mignon , or a simple backyard reception with BBQ - the DJ will be your most important decision.

The key to a successful wedding reception is planning. For the most part, brides tend to focus more on the way the room will look, what food will be served and lastly think about the entertainment, simply assuming it will be fun. How could it not be? Afterall it is a happy event!

The entertainment is the most crucial factor in whether or not it is a blast or a bust. So, when planning your celebration here are 5 simple tips as compiled by Brian S Redd - a very well respected DJ turned DJ Tutor - often featured in Disc Jockey News. I added in my thoughts - comments under each one, to further help you in your planning.

1 — When doing seating arrangements, Do Not Put Grandma In Front Of The Speakers.
Your older guests usually want to chat. Even at lower dinner music volumes, they may have a hard time doing so. The most ideal spot for Grandma would be as far away from the DJ as possible. Typically, your younger guests should have no problem hearing & engaging in conversation at those tables closest to the sound system.
( This is especially true for anyone who wears hearing aids. The volume from the speakers can be painful to hearing aid wearers, even at a low volume)

2 — When making your floor plan, let your DJ help.
Catering and wedding planners can put together some beautiful floor plans that work well for food & beverage. However, an experienced DJ will be able to give you some great tips on arranging a room to maximize the overall success for the entertainment portion of the evening.
(Ideally - the DJ needs to be close to the dancefloor and should have room in front of their setup so people can come up and make requests etc)

3 — Have a Timeline flow chart for the evening.
Timelines are the best way to organize everything from cocktails & dinner to cake cutting & dancing. Your DJ can help make a flow chart that works for you. The specific times you outline may not actually work out to-the-minute, but it will for sure make the evening flow smoother without accidently leaving anything out.
( our planners and Timeline forms do just that!)

4 — If you have a wedding planner, don’t forget to connect them with the DJ.
This is overlooked more often than you would think. When it comes to a well planned reception, it’s always best when all of your vendors are on the same page.
(it is crucial to a smooth event that the DJ, Wedding Planner, and Photographer all to know when you want to cut the cake, etc and work together to make it perfect)

5 — Hire a DJ you trust.
This person will play a big part in the most important day of your life. Regardless of price, make sure it’s someone you like, understands what you want & don’t want, and can Help Make Your Reception As Successful As Possible.

( 2 Wolves DJ Service prides itself in working to help you make your wedding the one you always dreamed it would be!)

I know you're saying - I get all that about the decor - but how else can I make it special?

Sweet Favors:

How about a Smores Bar - where guests can make their own Smores?

Instead of the usual 'favors' - set up a candy bar - with candy corn, M&Ms, mini candy bars, even bubble gum. Whatever candies you like ( you can't go wrong here! ) Have little "Treat Bags" the guests can fill.

Give Candy Carmel Apples for favors - they have some nice 'gourmet' varieties your guests will love!

Now - of Course - The Music

In addition to the "usual" Wedding faire - have your DJ spin some more "spooky" tunes:

Thriller - Michael Jackson

Spooky - The Zombies

Werewolf of London -Warren Zevon

Monster - Lady Gaga

Monster Mash - Bobby Pickett

Timewarp - Rocky Horror Picture Show ( any song from this Classic!)

Season of the Witch - Donovan

Superstition - Stevie Wonder

Jump In The Line - Harry Belefonte ( From BeetleJuice ( Shake Senora) )

I Put a Spell on You - Screaming Jay Hawkins

Having the DJ all in Black would add to the fun - as would a black light or Hazer. You could even make it a costume party - With you - of course being the Bride and Groom!

The trick is - make the day uniquely yours - after all - it is YOUR wedding - Celebrate!

Picture Perfect Tented Wedding

Outdoor Weddings have always been popular, and the trend is really growing. They can be more cost effective (no need for a venue - a backyard will do) can hold more people (limited only by ground space) and are 'kid friendly' ( you can set aside a 'play area'). They also can be a romantically fresh setting ( nothing more romantic than a dance under the stars) BUT - outdoor weddings can be a huge gamble - you are betting against Mother Nature.

Weather is top concern when planning any outdoor affair, now double that for a wedding. Of course, rain (or snow) is the number one issue, but extreme cold and heat as well as bright sunlight and damp evening dew come into play. When it comes to planning an outdoor wedding, the brides need to follow the Boy Scout Motto: BE PREPARED!

Be Covered: unless you have a pavillion in your backyard, tenting is a must. Of course, tenting offers some protection against those stray showers, but also offers protection against the harsh sunlight and the evening dew for you and your guests. Be sure to provide tenting as well for your DJ or Band (they need to keep equipment protected), and for your food (sun and potato salad don't mix).

Be on Guard: The last thing you want is for your guests to be eaten alive by mosquitos, or worse, stung by a bee. Spray area down with a good repellent like Yard Guard. We also recommend using citronella - candles or oil in tiki lamps can be incorporated into your decor, adding to the romance as well as offering protection.

Be Aware: That pretty ivy growing up the tree just might be Poison Ivy ...The serene creek just might be home to Cottonmouths. Nature is full of surprises - Double Check everything

Be Cool: Or warm as the case maybe. How much fun can anyone have if they are sweating or freezing? Set up fans in summer, and outdoor heaters in winter. Do not rely on the indoors - thinking those who get too hot (or cold) are welcome to go inside to cool off ( warm up), unless that is where you want the party to end up at.

Be Hydrated: WATER - it is vital for those summertime weddings. Tea and punch are nice, but water is a must have. (and cheap!)

Be Ready: All the above will not work if it comes severe weather. Be sure to have an alternative plan to move it all indoors. If you plan to move into your house, be sure to already have it 'mapped out' as to where everything will go to avoid last minute stress

not have to cost a fortune.

Weddings can be one of the most stressful events to plan in your lifetime. Finding the perfect Venue, Caterer, Entertainment, dress, flowers, photographer, etc can be overwhelming. There are many wedding sites online one can go to and see hundreds of wedding vendors in you area, and these can be a good start.

Let's say you visit one of these sites. You type in your information and voila! up pops a list of vendors. Which one to choose? Of course the one on the top with the big display must be the best right? - Not necessarily They have the big ad and the top spot because they paid dearly for it, upwards to $500 per month. One thing for sure, is that cost for the ad is factored into their pricing.

Now, scroll down the list. You see the ones on the bottom - no fancy ad - just a small spot, mostly text. They must be not as good as the big boys on top, right? Not true. Many are excellent vendors, they just choose not to pay the absorbent fees - which can mean a big difference in cost to you.

I recently had one of these sites sales person tell me if I paid for advertising on their site that like their other vendors that pay for the top spots, I would reach "High End Brides" and could charge more for my services. And that "It only makes the Bride feel more special being able to say I booked a DJ for $xxx and I found her on ( insert name of wedding site).com! ( Bragging Rights!)" My response is that ALL brides in our book are special - and our goal is to make the music perfect so all of our brides can brag about their wedding.

The same thing on Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc. Say you type in Wedding DJ and your city. The top results will be ads - often from brokers that have DJs in your area. They are a good place to start, but remember, they are sending you a DJ from your area, so wouldn't it be great to deal directly with that DJ and eliminate the 'middle man' ? The rest, especially the first page on a search, will be a mix of DJ companies in your area and links to more Wedding sites like mentioned above. Look for the listings that are obviously the actual DJ ( or other vendor) site.

Now there is Thumbtack.com that do not allow vendors to pay for their ads. They rank them according to reviews, completeness of profiles etc. They get their revenue from the vendors via a small fee the vendors pay for submitting each quote. Here you know the vendor is interested in providing you their service and is available on your date. Other sites that brag "Get quotes from vendors here!" often charge a huge monthly or yearly fee to vendors to be on the list, again driving up their cost.

Once you done some searching, be sure to contact several vendors and have a list of questions you will want to ask written down beforehand.
Questions like:
What do you change and do you have any special packages for weddings?
What sets you apart from other DJs - photographers - etc?
Will you be the one actually performing the work?
Do you charge extra for travel, set up time etc?
How long have you been in your line of work?
Are you insured?
For DJs - How is the music determined? Can I select the songs?
And any other questions you may have.

Note not just what they say but HOW they say it. Are they passionate about their work? Are they too pushy - pushing their big package over the smaller one? Do they spend time answering all your questions? And most important - is this the person you feel is going to do things the way you want them done? Are you comfortable with them?

Your wedding is one of the biggest events in your life and needs to be done in a way that reflects you and your fiancee Their are many good vendors out there and with a little shopping around you will find the ones that are perfect for you.

One of the time honored traditions of weddings is the Cake Cutting. It is the first "task" they do together as husband and wife - symbolizing they commitment to always help each other.
Afterwards, they feed each other a piece of the cake - symbolic of the mutual commitment to provide for one another.

This tradition can be a sentimental moment or a fun one. Surely all of us have witnessed mini 'Cake fights' where he couple ends up wearing more of the cake than eating it. The song played should be a reflection of the mood the couple wants to convey and of the couple themselves.

Here is a few top choices - some romantic - some more up beat and fun:

Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Pat Benetar

Smile - Uncle Kracker

Sugar Sugar - Archies

Pour Some Sugar On Me - Def Leppard

How Sweet It Is - James Taylor

Lucky - Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat

At Last - Etta James (Beyonce does this well also)

Lost In The Moment - Big and Rich

Love Story - Taylor Swift

That's Amore - Dean Martin

I Can't Help Myself - Four Tops (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)

All you Need Is Love - Beatles

Some couples choose to have a Grooms Cake also. You can cut this as well, or have the staff do it. If you do cut it, the DJ can continue playing the 'Cake Cutting' Song you selected, or you can select one to be reflexive of the Grooms style. One Idea, is if it is his college Team colors and theme, have the school's "Fight Song" played.

If you chose to do Cupcakes (which is becoming wildly popular) Simply cut one of them, or have a small cake for the ceremony.

Be sure to have your DJ announce the cake cutting and have the photographer ready. And be prepared to wear some icing .

Get your Reception Dancing!

Choosing the music for your reception can be a daunting task. You know what songs you like, but what about your guests? Yes, the day should be a reflection of you and your beloved life together, but if you both love hip-hop and invite Grandma, she probably will not be up shaking it on the dance-floor. Not to mention coming up with music to fill an entire evening alone can be a chore. But it need not be overwhelming. Here are some basic tips when it comes to the music.

You don't need four plus hours of music - at least, you don't have to select it all yourself. A good DJ can fill in with appropriate selections based on what few you select.

Think of your Guests - Include songs your parents and other older guests would like. Add some fun songs for the kids. Toss in songs you and your friends always crank up when you hear them played on the radio.

Mix it up - Do a fairly good mix of genres. Not into country? - maybe some of the newer crossover hits.

Avoid Rap - So you two love rap. Still I recommend avoiding. Rap as a genre - for the most part - does not provide for good dancing. And the lyrics of many rap songs are found to be offensive to some people.

Pump It Up - Yes, this is the most romantic day of your lives. And you want the wonderful slow dances. But too many of them and the guests will get restless. Be sure to add some great club dance tunes so they can shake it.

Think Dance - You have a song you totally love - you know all the words and sing along every time you hear it. But Can you dance to it? Unless you are doing Karaoke, have DJ play those type of songs during Dinner/Cocktail time.

Watch The Language - Be sure to insist on all songs being the radio edited version. If there is not one available, then you really dont need that song at your wedding.

Include the Line Dances - You know, The Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle, Electric Slide. Even the YMCA can be fun. Don't know them? Check out You Tube - they have instructional videos.

Allow Requests - Allow your DJ to play requests from your guests. If your DJ cannot play requests, find another one who can.

Listen to the Radio - Keep a notepad handy and write down the title and artist to songs you hear that you would love to play at your wedding.

Add some Meaningful Songs - Songs that remind you of milestones. First Date, First Kiss, when he proposed, etc.

ASK FOR HELP - Ask your parents, bridal party, friends, cousins, etc for some good songs. And most of all - Ask your DJ.

What suggestions do you have for great reception songs? What songs do you cringe at when you hear it played at a wedding?

Now you maybe thinking " But GAMES?? We are too old for games!" But you would be surprised how well received and fun they can be - not to mention a great ice breaker.
We have had a few played at parties we have DJed and with much success - here are a few:

Trivia - At a recent birthday 60th party, the wife gave me a list of questions about the birthday boy. In between songs, I asked the guests the questions. It provided a fun trip down the course of the Birthday guy's life. Questions like:

How Many Grandchildren does he have?

Where was his favorite spot to take his kids on vacation?

What was his first car?

This could be done for retirement parties, Anniversaries, Weddings also.

Generations Dance - Honor the longest Married Couple with a Generations Dance. DJ will invite all couples up to dance floor. As song is played and they are dancing, the DJ would have them leave dance floor by length of marriage - 1year , 5 years, etc - until only the longest married couple is still dancing.

Even those who don't dance much love this!

Door Prize Giveaway via cake plate - Number the bottom of the cake plates. After everyone has a slice of cake - Have DJ randomly draw numbers for small prizes you provide.

This is a good way not to have alot of left over cake and great for adults as well as kids parties

Yes, The First dance by the newly married couple is an emotional part of any wedding reception. But nothing brings on the tears as much as the Father - Daughter and Mother - Son Dances. Making sure this part of the reception goes smoothly and choosing the 'perfect' song for these dances can be a daunting task.

These Dances can be orchestrated many ways. If you want to be slightly different than the standard some suggestions are:

Half way through song - have DJ invite other Father/Daughters - Mother and Sons to join you on floor

If Mother or Father is no longer with you - have dance with sibling, grandparent, Step parent, or you new in law ( father - in -law or mother - in - law) or anyone that played a significant role in your life.

use only one song for both - you can even start off with Father and Daughter then have DJ invite Groom and Mother to join you

Be sure to take into consideration the length of the song , for some songs are long. Ask the DJ to fade out after first chorus or after so long into the song is not unusual , and many will be happy to adjust the song for you.
When Sherri of WFPA Radio approached me about coming on the show to discuss our DJ Business, I was floored. To have such a wonderful opportunity to talk about the 2Wolves DJ Service is truly an honor. But what WFPA Radio is doing for the community of Fort Payne, Alabama is even more incredible.

WFPA 1400 NewsTalk radio loves the town of Fort Payne, and has watched and reported about how businesses here are struggling - many having to cut back or shut down all together. Mike and Tammy Wallace knows in times like these, more than ever, local businesses need all the help they can get in encouraging the locals to shop local. Doing what he does best, Mike is shining the spotlight on local businesses every day. His show, Mornings With Mike, is featuring business owners from all around the DeKalb County area, having them take questions for the listeners and allowing the audience to get to know their 'neighbors' just a little bit better.

"No one can talk more passionately about what they do than a business owner who loves their work.... that is why we are doing this" said Tammy, Mike's wife. And she is right. Passion and love of music is what drives the 2Wolves DJ service and we are excited to have the chance to share this with our neighbors .
The centerpieces of the Reception tables add to the whole atmosphere of the wedding. But what are you going to do with them all after wards? Many times guests will not only love to have one, but will fight for them. To avoid this type of scene, try one of these ideas:

Trivia

Give the DJ ( or best man, maid of honor etc) one question per table. The guest at that table that correctly guesses the answer wins the centerpiece from that table.

Questions about the couple are great for weddings such as:

And you can add in things like:

"INTRODUCING MR and MRS ..... "

Yay! The wedding is over, you have said your "I Do's" and it is time for the party. Receptions are the fun part where you can kick off your shoes and enjoy the first moments of your married life, celebrating with your family and friends. Most like to enter the room to a bit of fanfare, making The Grand Entrance as it is called. But how? and to what song?

We have done many different Grand Entrances, from a trumpet fanfare for a bride and groom who waved to the crowd from a balcony - Royalty style, to a couple who bopped into their candy themed reception to the song "I Love Candy". The entrance can and should be a reflection of the couples likes and personalities.

To give you some ideas, here is a list of some of the more popular songs we have used:

Got to Get You Into My Life Earth, Wind & Fire
Enter Sandman Metallica
This Will Be (An Ever Lasting Love) Natalie Cole
Power Of Love Huey Lewis
You're my first, My last, My Everything Barry White
Signed,Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours Stevie Wonder
I Wanna Grow Old With You Adam Sandler
The Best is Yet to Come Michael Buble
Lost in this Moment Big & Rich
My Wish Rascal Flatts
Marry Me Train
Only Time Enya
DJ's Got Us Fallin In Love Usher
Crazy In Love Beyonce
Stuck Like Glue Sugarland
Walking on Sunshine Katrina & the Waves
Chapel Of Love Dixie Cups
I Gotta Feeling Black Eye Peas
Finally Ce Ce Peniston

Some prefer to have a separate song for the wedding party to make their 'Grand Entrance' to. Here are some suggestions (which also can work well for Bride and Groom)

I Gotta Feeling Black Eyed Peas
Celebration Kool & The Gang
Another One Bites The Dust Queen
Walking on Sunshine Katrina and the Waves
Friends In Low Places Garth Brooks
We are Family Sister Sledge
Wobble V.I.C.
Party Rock Anthem LMFAO
Raise Your Glass Pink
Rocky Theme Song
Stuck Like Glue Sugarland
Walking on Sunshine Katrina and the Wave
Time (Dirty Bit) Black Eyed Peas
Eye Of The Tiger Survivor
Walk This Way Aerosmith -(alone or with Run DMC)
Crazy Train Ozzy Osborne
L-O-V-E Nat King Cole
Let's Get Loud Jennifer Lopez
Good Time Alan Jackson

Cody Sims - doing the garter toss

The Garter Toss is another time honored tradition. This is typically done with a special "toss Garter" put on the bride for this occasion, so she can keep the one worn for the wedding. It is done right after the 'Bouquet Toss"

A chair is placed in center of room for bride to sit. The Groom then gets down on one knee and removes the garter. Once he has the garter, he slings it over his shoulder (or head) towards the single guys waiting to catch it.

After it is caught - some parties end it there ... others continue the fun by having the garter catcher place garter on the leg of the lady who caught the bouquet.

What makes this really fun is the music. Up beat, sexy, fun songs are the best.
